The American People Today

People in the United States come from many different countries and cultures. About one in every ten citizens was born in another country.  About one-third of immigrants are from Mexico. So many people come from different places, and that’s what the United States is made out of actually, immigrants. Immigrants contribute parts of their heritage and culture to the U.S. Some of these contributions are customs, food, language, and traditions. People also brought their knowledge. America was becoming very diverse.

Even though there were many different cultures and traditions, the United States is held together with our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Those documents protect the values of democracy and equal rights. The United States faced many difficulties to gain rights to equal jobs, schools, and housing.

But after all that struggling, the United States finally gained equal rights with the other nations and countries. Today,  the fifty states of the U.S. form one nation.
