Francisco de Coronado
In1536 there were 4 survivors from a ship that went all the way to Mexico. One of the survivors was Fransisco de Coronado. He was the governer of New Galicia (part of Mexico). He was born in Salamanca, Spain in 1510.On there way to Mexico City, some Native Americans told them about the Seven Cities of Cibola. These seven cities were told to be rich in wealth. Fransisco de Coronado and 300 Spaniards, and a lot of Africans, and thousands of Native Americans set off for their journey to find the Seven Cities of Cibola. They started in Mexico and traveled through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. They ended in Kansas but never found the Seven Cities of Cibola.Instead of finding what they were looking for, they found only poor Indian villages. Later Fransisco de Coronado claimed the entire Southwest Desert. After claiming the land,Fransisco de Coronado told everyone that it was time to go home to see there family again. Fransisco de Coronado died September 22, 1554.
