Cabot This is the Matthew
John Cabot's real name is " Giovanni Caboto" and the English way is John Cabot. John Cabot was born in 1450. John Cabot is native to Genoa,Italy. He went over to England to try to get a crew and a boat.The name of his ship was Matthew. The king said to claim any land they came upon. John left England with a crew of 18 men. One morning on June 24,1497 he came upon land. He then claimed the land for the king of England. He then explored the island for 2 months, and called the island the Newfoundland.Which is now called Nova Scotia. After the voyage back home Cabot explained they could drop a net down the side of the boat and come up with a load of fish. Cabot had just discovered the Grand Banks! John's route was from England across the Atlantic ocean to an island beside the United States. Then he sailed southwest to the other side of the island to explore the island more. Cabot came home in August and went on a second trip in the following year 1498 to find gold and riches. Sadly he did not find what he was looking for. He sailed west of greenland and down the coast as south as North Carolina. He returned to England only to die shortly after he arrived. He died in 1499.
