The New England union has four colonies, New Hampshire, Conneticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusettes.

Rhode Island

Rhode Island was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams. Roger Williams, a Puritan minister, thought that government and religion should be seperate. He believed and taught people that they shouldn't fight for land they should buy it. Roger Williams bought land from Narragansetts Indians and he founded a settlement he named Providence. It later became the present day capital of Rhode Island.

Rhode Island became a state May 29,1790. The state was named for the Dutch, it was called "Red Island". After Rhode Island became a state, its major industry for agriculture were livestock, dairy, and fishing. The Major industry for manufacturing was lumbering. The only major city was Providence, which is the capital.

The people of the area benifited from a lot of  fishing, trading, and shipbuilding, the residents became very rebellious agaist the Britan's persistent taxation in the 1700's. In 1773, when Bostonians had their famous Tea Party, loading a British tea ship, and tossing the tea into the Boston Harbor because of unfair taxation. Massachusetts became a state after that on Febuary 6th, 1788.

In 1628 and 1630 the puritans landed in New England in what is now the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
