Paul Revere’s Ride
In April of 1775 a British General named Thomas Gage found out that the Patriots had a hidden military store, and he wanted to take the weapons and arrest all responsible. A man named Paul Revere heard this and warned the Patriots by riding horseback with William Dawes and Samuel Prescott down the street yelling "The British are coming! The British are coming!" They rode all the way to the church and hung a single lit lantern in the steeple. This meant that the British were coming by land and two lanterns would have meant they were coming by sea. The Patriots and Minutemen got their weapons and waited for the British. When the British got there the colonists were ready. The British became nervous and then started to fire shots. Eight minutemen were killed or injured. In the end 73 British were killed and 147 injured. But only 93 minutemen were killed or injured. Later that was called “The Shots Heard Around the World”.
