Reconstruction
Reconstruction was when the USA needed to rebuild the nation from all the destruction that was done from the Civil War. During reconstruction, the North wanted to punish the South for keeping slaves. They put the South on military control to pass laws about freeing slaves and letting every man vote. The north wanted the southern states to join the union (the free north states). But President Lincoln being assassinated, Andrew Johnson put Lincoln’s plan into action. John Wilkis Booth was the assassin that shocked the country at the play “Our American Cousin”. Andrew Johnson got the constitution to change letting every man vote and to free all slaves.
