Robert La Salle
Robert La Salle was born in France on, November 22, 1643. He was stationed in New France (Canada) in a base on Lake Ontirio. He claimed most of the New World (U.S.) for France and named it Louisiana for king Louis XIV. He was stationed in New France at a base known as Fort Frontenac. His first stop was St. Ignace. He then sailed to Fort Miamis. After that, his last stop was Fort Crevecoer. Then countinued down the rest of the Mississippi. (resource:Textbook Harcourt Horizons)
He tried and failed to make a settlement near the mouth of the Mississippi. Though it was tough in the swampy conditions, he didn't give up. Anyway, the settlement lasted 3 years before it failed. One of the settlers killed La Salle in 1687.
