The Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was the first united colonial army who tried to bring freedom for our country. This group was called to meet in Philadelphia on May 10th, 1775, because of the fight
between Lexington and Concord. At this meeting, some group members, for example, John Dickinson tried to persuade the Congress to avoid fighting. On June 5th, 1775, the Congress asked
George Washington to lead the Continental Army. He humbly accepted this very important offer.
The Congress agreed that the colonies should at least prepare for war. To supply the Continental Army, The Congress asked each colony to contribute money for things such as guns, bullets, food, and uniforms. When George left to take charge of the Continental Army, they had already fought one major Revolutionary battle.
