SOUTHERN COLONIES

There are 5 southern colonies and they are: Georgia, the Carolinas , Virginia, and Maryland.

GEORGIA

Georgia was founded in 1733 by James Oglethorpe. The land was named after king George. Georgia was the last of the 13 colonies.

Oglethorpe took all the debtors out of prison and took them to Georgia to help.

Georgia became a state in jan. seccond in seventeen eighty eight.

MARYLAND

 SOUTH CAROLINA

Maryland was founded in 1633 by Lord Baltmore (calverts family),it became a state in1788. Only 1/8 of the people who went to Maryland were rich enough to pay their way to Maryland, so the people who couldn't pay for thier way in became servents to the people who payed for them. Most of the people who came to Maryland were Catholics because Maryland was meant to help the Catholics. Their cash crop was tobacco.

                             in 1607 colonists found james town present day virginia to find gold.

Jamestown wouldn't have survived with out the  jamestown leader, John Smith. He said any one who does not work does not eat.

He made this rule because no one cared to plant food .Soon Virginia's cash crop was tobacco.
