TEXAS AND MEXICAN WAR
By: SARAH
During 1821 Texas was part of Mexico. They got along perfectly except for one thing. Although slavery was against the Mexican law many American settlers brought them to Mexico anyway. American settlers or Tejanos who are people who were Mexican that lived in Texas wanted to break free from Mexico. The Americans and the Tejanos did not like the laws made by the Mexican leader Santa Anna who was the president back then. In 1836 the leader of the Mexican side took an army to San Antonio to call a fort named Alamo. A little less than 200 Texans and Tejanos met him there and most of them died in combat.
A man named Sam Huston lead the Texans in a great attack. They elected Sam as president after his surprise attack on the Mexicans and captured their leader Santa Anna.
Since the United States and Mexico disagreed on the border in the middle of Texas and Mexico. Then in 1846 the congress declared war. The soldiers fought in 3 different fronts. And in 1847 the Americans captured Mexico City. Then in 1848 Mexico signed the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
