The Townshend Acts
A year after the Stamp Acts were passed, a new set of laws were passed. These were called the Townshend Acts. These Acts put taxes on household items such as glass, paper, lead, paint, and tea. England wanted to impose taxes to the colonists to pay the war debts. The taxes angered the colonists and they decided not to buy these items.
Britain then removed all taxes except for the tea tax.
This act continued to enforce rights of tax on the colonist. Freedom lovers (The Sons of Liberty) felt no tax should be levied without colonist consent, and repress in government. Colonist started smuggling Dutch tea, illegally, because of this. Women started to do this also, and formed a group called The Daughters of Liberty.
