The Struggle for Equality
In the 1800’s woman in the United States did not have all their rights protected. Susan B. Anthony was a leader who thought that woman should have the same rights as men. Elizabeth Cady Shanton was the first president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (N.A.W.S.A) in 1890. In 1917 the state of Montana elected the first congress woman, Jeanette Rankin. During World War 1 women filled the jobs of men who went to fight. Women’s hard work after the war helped lead us to the nineteenth amendment.
